After coming across Jason Brooks’ photographs in the Delmarva Nature and Wildlife Facebook group, I couldn’t help but reach out for a feature. His images of nature and local wildlife were accompanied by clever captions like the one for the image at the time being “Frank – you good?” When asked about his history with the activity, Brooks said he only made photography a formal pursuit last year after buying his first camera and lens in the spring. Before that, he relied mostly on lens attachments for his phone, so to own an good quality camera was quite the adjustment. He picked it up as a creative outlet seperate from his rigid career as a Major in the Delaware National Guard. Brooks says he’s “always loved taking pictures that were interesting – no matter the subject,” and mentioned that while he doesn’t work with people in his shots, he tends to find landscapes and nature, architecture, macro, and astro photography particularly interesting. As far as his favorite places to shoot go, Brooks includes Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Assateague Island National Seashore, and Longwood Gardens, each giving him a unique location across three states on the Eastern Shore while also allowing him to test different techniques on diverse subjects.
If you see any images you’d like to own or have displayed in your own space, feel free to reach out to him on social media for a reasonable price! Brooks can be found on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
